Bedelia Du Maurier (complete name Bedelia Isabelle Du Maurier) was born on the 31st of August in Baltimore, Maryland. Only child from Eileen and Andrew Du Maurier, she comes from a comfortably off family from England. Dr. Andrew Du Maurier was a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, spending a lot of time working and traveling as he was often asked to perform surgeries in other states, but also in other countries. Dr. Eileen Du Maurier, born Scott, was a neurologist who, after taking a few years off to take care of their newborn child, started working again even if she had always made sure to have enough time for Bedelia; it was only once their daughter was old enough to take care of herself a few weeks that she decided to follow her husband to his trips overseas.She had a calm childhood, doing a lot of activities and hobbies, often travelling to the UK, where the most important part of her family lived. At the time she was taught to reach certain expectations, but it wasn’t enough to trouble her too much. However, her teenage years were quite eventful as well as the beginning of her time at university. It was when she was around fourteen that her parents started to become more absent and while she was able to take care of herself, the pressure they had put on her her whole childhood to be always good (if not the best) and perfect began to have the opposite effect on her. While she kept her perfect façade in front of them and at school, it was then that her habit to sneak out to party and get drunk started. It wasn’t unusual for her to spend the whole night out before having to pretend everything was perfectly fine the following day.After good school years in the private sector, she left for England to make her medical studies at Oxford. Despite some wild escapades, she was a serious student. Bedelia had successfully managed to drink in excess and use recreational drugs from time to time while still keeping excellent grades and not missing classes. Her rebellion sort of calmed down with the years, so by the end of her studies, she was partying less. When the time of the specialisation arrived, she opted for psychiatry without hesitation. As soon as she graduated and her first paper was published, she returned to Baltimore for her residence at John Hopkins. She worked for a few years at the hospital to have some professional experience before opening her own office, it's during that time that a patient attacked her for the first time, leaving a scar on the left side of her neck. Concurrently with her work, she continued to write articles for different periodicals and made a name for herself in the milieu.During her residency, her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and the bad news continued a few years later when her father died after spending so much time taking good care of his ill wife. Bedelia had then no other choice than putting her mother in a specialised institute.

Bedelia had a certain amounts of relationships with men and women, but none of them lasted. She was engaged around the age of 30 to a man who was generally well-liked and charismatic. He was working in a company that took care of people's fortune near the hospital where she worked at the time they met. His career was his main goal and how he was with people wasn't how he started being with her. He wanted a good looking family and to become the boss, he didn't care much about her and love, especially when she got pregnant and rumours about him cheating surfaced. Eventually, her fiancé left her abruptly after she had a miscarriage. After this bitter failure that made her feel like she was unable to be good enough, she gave up the idea of having her own proper family and focused on her work.As she was still practising, a patient who was referred to her by Hannibal swallowed his tongue during a session. She tried to help him, but he eventually died in her house (by her hand) and Hannibal helped her hide the true cause of his death. The whole event was considered as an accident by the police, but she knew the truth and it left her traumatised, making her quit psychiatry and go into retirement. To this day, she still has nightmares of the event and barely leaves her house.Despite her retirement, Bedelia kept the Dr. Hannibal Lecter as her only patient due to his persistence in engaging her after her attack. Their relationship seemed ambiguous, but she made it clear that she considered him only as a colleague and not a friend. At least until she eventually ended their patient-psychiatrist relationship after she had discovered more about the man he truly was and she took the decision to leave Baltimore, leaving no trace behind her in case he would go after her. It was the FBI who eventually found her and made her come back to the US.After the events of Mizumono, Bedelia left for Europe with Hannibal; first they spent some time in Paris and then they lived in Florence, pretending to be a married couple as Mr and Mrs Fell to hide from the authorities. Will and Jack found her after she injected herself drugs to use them as her alibi, but despite the fact that neither of them believed she was drugged by Hannibal and honestly thought she was Lydia Fell, she went back to Baltimore and never had to go to prison as they were unable to prove her guilt, Hannibal having helped her once again. Bedelia started giving lectures about her experience with Hannibal, reinforcing her alibi in front of a crowd. However, the events she had lived while in Europe with him also left her with more mental scars than she had already had and not only did it worsen her alcohol problem, it also made her start using, again, different substances including anxiolytics and sometimes injectable drugs

Takes place during season 1 as well as season 2 before and after she leaves Baltimore in Sakizuke. Bedelia might still be Hannibal’s therapist depending if it’s before or after her departure, but is otherwise retired. While the attack of her patient is still somehow haunting her and she doesn’t leave her house much, she can handle her anxiety to a certain point.

Second half of season 3, Bedelia is back in Baltimore and uses her experience with Hannibal to cement her alibi. She’s conscious of what she did, but doesn’t see it as something good. Despite her apparent confidence, she’s broken inside and still struggles with anxiety.

After the end of season 3, Bedelia survived the loss of her left leg and still lives in Baltimore as a retired psychiatrist. While she learned to live properly with her prosthesis, she’s mentally scared and wishes for revenge. In this verse, Bedelia has a therapy dog, a Dalmatian called Persephone.

End of season 3, canon divergent. Bedelia still lives in Baltimore and suffers from anxiety, but she hasn’t lost her leg. She has a quite normal life even if the shadow of Hannibal and her past still haunts her which causes her to be distrustful towards most people.

The Power To Both Possess And Shatter The Entire Universe.

Verse for both during her studies in Oxford and during her residence at John Hopkins after Bedelia came back from England. In this verse she drives a motorbike and sometimes owns a female Malinois dog (depends on the thread). Her issues with alcohol and food start becoming more important during that period, showing mostly during stressful periods, but it is also then that her path crossed drugs under different forms. Little did she know that her addiction problem would only worsen.

She keeps a perfect girl façade in front of her classmates and parents, maintaining good grades, but it’s usual for her to sneak out at night and get drunk with friends, usually older than her.

Single mom AU. Bedelia is the mother of twins, Anthea and Madeline (both 7 years old). She got pregnant during her residency and decided to keep the baby even if the father decided to leave her as he didn’t feel capable of taking care of a child. Bedelia discovered later that she was pregnant with twins, but being a single mother didn’t stop her from becoming a psychiatrist while taking care of them.

Escort AU. Bedelia is at the head of an escort agency. It was during the beginning of her residency that she met a man who used her addictions to his advantage, forcing her to resign and having total control over her life. It didn’t take long before he realised he could sell her like the other girls he kept around. It lasted a few years before she gathered the courage to leave, or, more exactly, to run away. It was then that she decided to open her own agency to prevent other women to be treated the way she was. Known for her high standard, Bedelia’s agency is renowned and she’s respected.

Ballerina AU. Bedelia has never stopped ballet when she was a teenager and instead of going to university, she became a professional ballerina. Moving to England, she started dancing for The Royal Ballet and with a lot of work and dedication, she became one of their principal dancers. She dedicates her whole life to her work and intends to be the best, no matter what it takes from her physically or mentally.

Professor AU. Bedelia is a university professor who teaches psychiatry after having practised as a psychiatrist until she retired when a patient attacked her or post season 3. Serious and focused, she is respected by her students, some of them even showing signs of fear when she’s around. However, as cold as she can be, she stays fair both inside and outside of class.

Actress AU. Instead of doing her residency after university, Bedelia tried her luck in the acting world and got a role in a movie that made her quite famous. Then it was only a question of time before she received more offers and went to more castings. However, while she does enjoy her work, it also brings back fears she thought she successfully had silenced before.

It’s The Need To Escape The Reality.

Drug addict AU. During her years at university, her use of recreational drugs becomes a real problem and instead of being able to stop whenever she wants as she keeps telling her friends, Bedelia develops a strong addiction to opioids. She continues to attend class and then do her residency despite the risk of getting caught which could cost her her career as she considers herself as a functioning addict, but she’s obviously struggling more and more as time passes.

I Will Swallow My Blood Before I Swallow My Pride.

1920s AU (Downton Abbey inspired). Bedelia is the daughter of Lord Andrew and Lady Eileen Du Maurier, Duke and Duchess in Essex. As their only child, she has to marry a man that she doesn’t love to keep both the title and the estate, but she refuses many times, standing up to her parents. It’s difficult as she wants to keep her freedom, daring to want a marriage based on love and not responsibilities. During her free time, she goes to London as often as she can to blend in with people who don’t know her and be herself. Her parents would be mortified to find out which crowds she mixes with and with the pressure growing more every day, Bedelia truly starts considering running away to live a different life in which she can marry whoever she wants or even decide to not marry at all.

Always Wear Your Mind Like A Crown.

Royalty AU. Bedelia was born as a member of a Royal Family and has the title of princess, but since she’s only sixth in the line of succession to the throne, she has been allowed more freedom and got to study to become a psychiatrist. However, she has never had her own practice since her family didn’t approve of her working with people like this given her ancestry and who she is, therefore she does what is expected of her and stays publicly quiet even if her private life is not as flawless as she lets appear.
Future Queen AU: It’s the same except Bedelia is the first in the line of succession to the throne and will become queen after the death of her father. She still studies psychiatry until she’s crowned.
Historical AU: Bedelia is a member of the Royal family and has the title of princess, but with no hope to access the throne since she’s a woman, her only goal in life is to marry someone for political or monetary reasons.

Pirate AU. Takes place during the Golden Age of Piracy, PoTC inspired. Bedelia comes from a rich family, her father made a fortune by trading with the British Empire, owning many ships and making his family travel a lot. However, when her mother’s illness became public knowledge, her father’s health declined quickly and he died, leaving the company in the hand of a dishonest man. Without a husband and living on the money left by her father, Bedelia quickly realised that something was wrong with how the company was handled and she took her father’s favourite ship, that she renamed The Morrigan, and hired a crew to spy on what was going in the Caribbean. What she witnessed from what was supposed to be a legal business made her turn to a new kind of people in an attempt to keep her family money and be able to take care of her mother until her death. Now known as the feared and respected Captain Du Maurier, Bedelia is at the head of an empire of her own with many pirate ships working under her orders while she stays mostly on land as the sea has never been truly her cup of tea.

Bedelia comes from a rich noble British family, her father made a fortune by working with the British Empire, owning many ships and making his family travel a lot. Having had no wish to marry a husband her family would choose for her, she used her name and her family’s wealth to become a part of the Royal Navy with the blessing of her father after months of endless arguments. She quickly proved herself to her superiors as a skilled sailor and pirate hunter which allowed her to become the only woman captain of her own ship in the Royal Navy at the time. Building up a reputation of relentless pirate hunter, most people are afraid of her which led her to a life of solitude and praises.

Vampire AU. Bedelia is a vampire living in England in an old manor where she spends most of her time studying. Her titles are Doctor and Duchess Du Maurier. Due to her violent transformation (she was beaten up and abused), her way of killing to get blood is more brutal than most vampires. Her old age (she was born and turned in the 10th century) gives her more power and she’s respected by most. Those who disrespect her never live for very long.

I Am A Painful Truth.

Death AU. The world is balanced because of the work of two entities that are as different as they are similar. One gives life, sometimes for the worst; the other takes life, sometimes for the best. They coexist and work together. Bedelia is Death, the painful truth, the feared one who brings sadness, but deep down she isn’t as heartless as people picture her. Deep down she struggles with the reality of what she was created to do. “life asked death, ‘why do people love me but hate you?’ death responded, ‘because you are a beautiful lie and i am a painful truth.”

A goddess of black veils and dark prophecies.

Witch AU. Bedelia comes from a long line of witches and had been raised to be the best one in the family. She was sent to England to study witchcraft, but eventually also took advantage of her presence there to study medicine and eventually psychiatry. Due to her slow ageing, she has to move from time to time and uses her work as a (usually retired) psychiatrist as cover even if she will most likely be found in the family estate in England or in her house in Baltimore as she tends to not be too close to mortals. Like her parents before her, she’s a part of a coven in England, but has ties with some in different places over the world, thanks to her family and the bonds she created over the years. Bedelia never reveals her true age, but she’s older than what she appears to be.

Born in the Capitol as the only child of a rich family, she was supposed to marry high up and maintain her place in the society, but she still studied to become a psychiatrist and eventually reached her goal. Through her work, she quickly learned about the darkest sides of the place she grew up in and the truth started leaving long lasting marks. Eventually she was recruited by Plutarch to use her work as a way to spy in the Capitol. Coming from a capitolite family, no one expects her to have sided with the rebellion.
Victor AU: Bedelia is a career from District 1. After training for years, she volunteers to the 63rd Hunger Games at seventeen and through use of poison manages becomes the victor of those games. What had been her dreams for many years actually is closer to a nightmare.

After years known as Lieutenant general Du Maurier, she became M. Young agent AU: Bedelia joined the MI6 in her mid-twenties as a field agent as 0013, slowly making her way up to the top to become M.

A Matter of Perspective.

Mafia/Bond Villain AU. The Du Maurier family became active in illegal business during the early 1900s after one of Bedelia's ancestor became involved with a gang leader in London. Quickly their influence spread across countries and the company grew into an international criminal organisation with always a member of the family at its head. Growing up in that environment, Bedelia had always known that she would eventually take her father's place as he made sure to repeat to her how important it was that she listened to him, but his constant teaching with debatable methods became an issue during her teenage years and she decided to study psychiatry against his wish. By the time she was done with her studies, their relationship was stable even if not exactly loving and she agreed to take his place. The transfer happened abruptly after her mother's diagnosis and Bedelia found herself at the head of the organisation at only 30 years old. It is unclear what exactly they do behind closed doors or how much power and influence they have, many intelligence services have attempted to find out with no success over the years, and Bedelia keeps it that way as she knows she's a high-profile target. She exists, but she has to stay a ghost and rare are the ones she trusts given what is at stakes if anything were to happen to her.

Her daemon is a cheetah named Sáppheiros, ancient greek for sapphire as his eyes are a specific shade of blue close to the precious gemstone.
